Proverbs 3:19
By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,
by understanding he set the heavens in place;
When I was Catholic, I taught second graders about the sacraments. In 2nd grade these children received 3 sacraments; Reconciliation, 1st Communion, and Confirmation. For Confirmation they learned about the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit. Let's see if I remember them, Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Fear of the Lord, Right Counsel, ummmm, 2 more? Guess I have to Google them...Fortitude and Piety.
Proverbs 3 is all about Wisdom and Understanding:
Blessed are those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,
14for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.
15She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
16Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
17Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
18She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;
those who hold her fast will be blessed.
Wait there is more!
My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,
preserve sound judgment and discretion;
22they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.
23Then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot will not stumble.
24When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
26for the Lord will be at your side
and will keep your foot from being snared.
I don't know about you, but that all sounds good to me.
But how do we get this wisdom and this understanding? They don't sell it at WallMart or the mall. You can't order it from Amazon...If you could, I'm sure Mr. Bill would have it by now.
No, the way to wisdom and understanding is not easy or quick. It can take some people a lifetime. Actually it will take your life time to acquire it. It is never ending and will grow as you pursue it.
One way to gain wisdom is to be a lifelong learner. I learn best when I teach. But to teach you have to study. So I gain wisdom when I study so I can teach and then I will learn.
But we are talking about God's Wisdom and that my friends is different. He knows what we need and when we need it so He will provide a time for learning, teaching and studying. He's cool like that. We just need to listen.
Listening...Isn't that what we blogged about yesterday?
