Proverbs 1:33
"but whoever listens to me will live in safety
and be at ease, without fear of harm.”
I started a new devotional this morning, "Jesus Calling Morning and Evening."
I read that God wants me to be teachable, eager to learn, and to seek His face with an open mind.
Proverbs 1 tells me to listen to Him and I will be at ease and not to fear.
This evening my devotional reminds me to "Choose life" and to again" listen to His voice."
Deuteronomy 30:20
You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."
Funny story: Bill and I were relaxing after taking down all the Christmas decorations, cleaning the house, eating dinner (pork and saurkraut) when he suggests I pay the monthly bills that are due. I said, "no, I'll do them tomorrow." Then I feel guilty and sit down and write out the checks. I'm reminded of the story of the father with the 2 sons in the bible. He asks the first one to go to work, and the son says no, but then goes and gets the work done. Then he asks the second son to go to work and he says ok, but doesn't go.
I guess I'm the first son, which is a good thing.
Matthew 21:28-32
28“But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go work today in the vineyard.’ 29“And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he regretted it and went. 30“The man came to the second and said the same thing; and he answered, ‘I will, sir’; but he did not go. 31“Which of the two did the will of his father?”
They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the kingdom of God before you. 32“For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even feel remorse afterward so as to believe him.
So what have I learned today...listen the first time and I will be blessed.
