Juliette goes to Miami Beach

Did you know that the average temperature on Miami Beach in the month of July is 90 degrees?  Yea, that's hot, especially for a hedgehog covered in fur.  Juliette's cousin Harriette lives in a small town in South Florida and has always wanted to visit Miami Beach.  She had seen pictures of all the beautiful people lying on the beach, with the breeze blowing their hair and the sun making their skin glow. They have tall frosty drinks in their hands and smiles on their faces.  Harriette thought this must be the place for me!  But she was a shy and fearful hedgehog unlike her cousin Juliette.  Juliette was brave and adventurous.

One day as Harriette was looking through a Southern Living magazine, she got a text from Juliette.  "What's up cous?" it said.  Out of the blue, Harriette texts back, "I want to go to Miami.  Will you go with me?"  Without any hesitation, Juliette returns with "Sure. When."  And so, the adventure begins.

Juliette lives in Chatanooga Tennessee.  She hopped on a bus and in 8 hours she was knocking on Harriette's front door.  She looked amazing in her beach hat and dark sunglasses.  Harriette felt frumpy in her old-fashioned housedress.  Juliette didn't even notice.  She gave Harriette a big hug, carefully of course.  They are hedgehogs you know.

Harriette had a map spread out on her kitchen table.  They planned their route and called for an Uber.  Oh yes, there is a big network of small-animal Uber drivers.  They hopped in the vehicle and began their journey.

Juliette had found them an oceanfront hotel, the Surfcomber.  It was a classic upscale place with loads of amenities.  They found a room and settled in.  The frig was stocked with drinks, and the cupboard had all the snacks 2 little hedgehogs could hope for.  The bed was humongous with soft and fluffy pillows.  They quickly changed out of their traveling clothes and put on their beach outfits.  Of course, Juliette had a bikini, while Harriette wore a coverup over her one-piece.  They scurried down the back steps to the pool.  It wasn't crowded at all.  Everyone must have been taking a siesta.  The water was incredible and there was a waterfall at the deep end.  The girls jumped, laughed, and played in the water for an hour until some little kids spied them and wanted to catch them.  They scampered out of the pool and headed for the beach.

Harriette stopped in her tracks, she couldn't believe what she saw.  It was just like in the magazine.  There they were, the beautiful people in their bathing suits.  With their tall frosty drinks in their sun-tanned hands.  They were sitting on chairs under umbrellas, reading books, or looking at their phones. Then they noticed how hot the sand was and they retreated to the shade of the mangrove trees along the edge of the boardwalk.  They sat there for hours watching the people laying on the beach, jumping into the water, or walking along the shore picking up seashells.  Juliette 's tummy started to rumble.  The girls decided it was time to enjoy those snacks in their room as they got ready to check out the night scene on Ocean Drive.

After munching on M&Ms and sharing a Coke they took a quick shower and put on their party dresses. The sun was going down but the action on Ocean Drive was heating up.  Sports cars rumbled up and down the road, and women dressed in sparkly pants with high-heeled shoes walked slowly along the sidewalk.  People, young and old looked at the menus of the restaurants that lined the street.  Names like Oh Mexico, Cafe Americano, and Icon on the Ocean were filled with beautiful people and delicious smells.  Juliette had done her research and they ran around the back to Havana 1957.  The place was dimly lit, but the girls were greeted with a friendly smile.  They ordered Seafood Stew and a pineapple Mojito.  After their delicious dinner, they walked along the boardwalk back to the hotel.  What an exciting day!  Could life get any better, thought Harriette as she drifted off to sleep on the fluffiest pillow she had ever slept on.

                                                                Story two

The next morning the two friends jumped out of bed and scurried downstairs for breakfast.  They ordered granola and Cuban coffee.  It was served with fresh fruit and real maple syrup.  They hurried back to their room to get ready for the day ahead.  Harriet had found an advertisement for a daytime cruise to Key Largo.  There they would board a glass bottom boat and spend an hour looking at coral reefs and tropical fish.  The cruise started out great until they hit some rough waves.  Harriette had never been on a boat before.  I don't think she was made for sailing.  Her tummy rumbled and rolled with each dip and sway of the big boat.  By the time they got to Key Largo, she was not very steady on her feet.  They decided to skip the glass-bottomed boat and find another way to spend the day.  They found an aquarium and butterfly garden at John Pennecamp Coral Reef State Park.  They grabbed a quick snack and jumped on a bus going back to Miami Beach.  They returned to the Surfcomber and ordered pizza.  They had enough excitement for one day.  Tomorrow will be their last day before heading back to Harriette's little house in the country.  Juliette had a big surprise planned for Harriette.

                                                                Story three

Rain, Oh no!  Juliette looked out the window at the gray sky and watched streams of water rush down the sidewalk.  She had planned a day filled with outdoor adventure and activities for Harriette.  First, they would jet ski, then parasail and finally kayak through the mangroves in the Oleta River.  But now rain.  Maybe it wouldn't rain all day.  Florida is known for daily quick rainstorms.  The girls took their time going down to breakfast.  They ordered eggs this time and sat on the patio to watch the rain, hoping it would pass by.  They played games in the Lobby and watched the people walking through the doors.  Everyone had somewhere to go.  The rain finally stopped around 3:00 so they found their way north to the Oleta River State Park.  They each got into a kayak and paddled through the crystal-clear water out into the Miami River.  The water was smooth, the air was warm and as evening approached, the sunset was magnificent.  They returned for their last night at the hotel.  After looking at the menu, they decided they wanted something fun to eat for their final dinner in Miami.  They googled "best wing on Miami beach.  The Foutainblue came up.  Wow, how would have thought that a fancy place like that would serve wings?  They splurged on a taxi and went uptown to check them out. They were out of this world delicious.  With full bellies and messy fingers, they decided to walk the boardwalk back to their hotel.  The sky was full of stars and the sound of the ocean was relaxing.  Crawling into the big bed for the last time, Harriette said in a sleepy voice, Juliette, thank you for making my dreams come true.  Juliette went to sleep as a tear rolled down her cheek.

January 1, 2023

Wow, what a year!  With my family all over the place it was hard to stay connected. But we did.

After Justine came home in May, we visited Jess and Keith in July.

 Juli moved to Pittsburgh.

Justine and Anthony had a baby.

 I visited in October,

then Justine and Hollyn came home over Thanksgiving.

Jess and Keith tried to come home but were involved in a collision with a trailer truck.  Keith did get to come back in December to visit us and his family.

That was alot of moving around.

Christmas was a little anticlimactic.  We did get to talk to Justine and Hollyn a few times.  She is quite a chatterbox.

God has been good to us in 2022 and I have FAITH that 2023 will be even better.

Baby Girl

He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.  From one man He made all the nations, that we should inhabit the whole earth; and He marked out their appointed time in history and the boundaries of their lands.                Acts 17:25-26

On April 4, 2022, I called Justine to wish her a Happy Birthday!  I was feeling a little down in the dumps and told her that I needed a change.  She paused and said, "Would being a grandma be change enough for you?"  Needless to say, I cried and said, "oh yes!"

Even before you were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it.                          Ephesians 2:10

At that time Justine was just 12 weeks pregnant.  Our baby will be 2 inches long.   She will be forming her eyes and kidneys.  She can yawn and suck and pee.

Justine came home for a quick visit on May 26th.  While she was here Juli, Teen, and I went to Ligonier to shop.  We had ice cream and sampled chocolates.  Our family came over for a mini Baby Shower.  On Saturday we went to Greensburg and got our nails done.  We had wings at Sharkeys and played 500.  Teen had to leave on Sunday, but we went to Burgatory for burgers and shakes on our way to the airport.  It was a great visit.
Unfortunately, Justine, Juli, and I tested positive for COVID on Monday.  We had to stay home.  None of us had serious symptoms though.  Thank You, Jesus.

Now our baby is 22 weeks old!  She should be about 10 inches long and weigh 11 ounces.  She is waking and sleeping and Jutine says she is kicking like a boxer.

You saw me before I was born.  Every day of my life was recorded in Your book.  Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.            Romans 8:28

Look at that beautiful face.
Mama and baby are doing fine.  Justine has been craving gummie candy.
The little girl is now 2 lbs.  Justine is now craving popsicles and has to pee often since our girl thinks Mommie's bladder is a trampoline.
She has hair, eyelashes and even buds for her teeth.  She can hear and reacts to light.

All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.     Psalm 139:16

Easter Prayer for the Cavanaugh Clan

Father God, we want to thank you for sending Your son Jesus to live among us.  To teach us how to love and care for each other.  Today we especially want to thank You for sacrificing Your son to give us the hope of eternal life.

We thank You for this family around these tables,

We thank You for our health in mind and body,

We thank You for Your love and mercy to each of us,

And we thank You for the relationships we have with each other:

            Between moms and dads

            Between brothers and sisters

Between husbands and wives

Between parents and children

Between grandparents and grandkids

Between nieces and nephews

Between cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Yes, we are all connected.  We are placed in this family, at this time in history to learn to love, to glorify Your name, and to make a difference in this world.

Bless each of us with health, strength, and courage to live out our purpose.  The purpose that You created for us before each of us was born.  Keep us close to each other here on this earth and let us live together forever with You in Heaven.

In the name of Jesus, Our savior.  Amen.

Chattanooga

I was missing Jessica and Keith.  Julianne had a long weekend.  So we decided to fly to Chattanooga for a quick visit.  We had breakfast ant Bar Symon to begin our adventure.  The flight to Washington DC was a little bumpy, ok it was alot bumpy.  Our flight to Chattanooga was delayed, and delayed and finally cancelled.  What do we do now??? I went to customer service and stood in line with all the other people who had their flights cancelled as well.  One lady in front of me suggested Huntsville Alabama.  I text Jessica to see if they could pick us up there.  They said that would work for them.  Juli and I boarded the plane, Jess and Keith got in their car, and we arrived in Huntsville at the same time.  Thank You Jesus!

It was a nice drive up to Chattanooga.  We all were hungry so we went to their favorite place Chattanooga Brewing Company.  We had pretzels with beer cheese, wraps and beer.  Keith gave us a tour of their neighborhood.  We settled into their townhouse for the evening, catching up on family news and drinking more beer and whiskey.

Next day was Saturday and we went to see the Chattanooga Choo Choo.  We did some souviner shopping and had lunch at the Terminal Brewery (delicious post roast nachos.)  Aross the street was Chattanooga Whiskey, so of course we had to go in and taste.  We checked out Feed Tavern.  Rustic and wonderful food.  Then it was off to the Incline.  We got on and up we went.  It is the steepest, longest incline in the US.  From the top we could see 6 states.  We returned to Jess's home and watched Disney movies.

Our last day took us to Puckett's for brunch then a walk across the Walnut Street Bridge.  This bridge is the longest pedestrian bridge in the US.  We did some more shopping, then the girls rode the Carousel.  It was a nice visit to make sure they are settling in peacefully.  I think Bill and I plan to visit this summer then head south to the Florida Panhandle beaches.

Which came first, the chicken of the egg?

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?  Which comes first in life, opportunity or faith?

Faith is being sure of what we do not yet see.  (Hebrews 11:1)  Will you see the opportunity if you don't have faith?  Will you miss an opportunity if you don't have faith?  Could you walk past this opportunity each day and not realize it is for you?  The answer is, Yes!  Let me explain...

I started teaching "aerobics" after participating in classes for many years.  After a few years, this business,( Energy in Motion) closed but soon another opportunity was placed before me.  (Stretch Your Faith.)  Then I was asked to teach Senior classes at another Fitness Center (Westmoreland Athletic Club)as well.

What does this all have to do with faith, you ask?  I had many opportunities through those years, but I didn't know it was God's hand directing me behind the scenes as they say. (Proverbs 16:1) I just knew that I loved my job and was good at it.  Now after years of teaching I started to get burned out.  I thought I was going to own a cheesecake business.  Yep, I was going to supply cheesecakes to restaurants and have a small shop where people would come and eat slices of cheesecake and drink tea.  I gave up my position as Active Older Adult Advisor at the YMCA and began to make myself known.

My friend Sheri took over at the YMCA.  But Sheri was not happy at the YMCA and I was not doing very well in the cheesecake business.  On top of that, my hands developed eczema.  After seeing a holistic doctor, it was determined that this was caused by a gluten intolerance.  Let me tell you, it's difficult to make cheesecakes without using gluten.  Sheri decided to go back to school for Medical Coding, whatever that is, so I took my position back at the YMCA.  I was refreshed and renewed, knowing that I was where I was supposed to be.

If I hadn't taken "aerobics classes" or hadn't accepted the job to teach, if I hadn't become a Stretch Your Faith instructor, or taught Senior classes, where would I be now.  As I look back on the twists and turns of my life, I see God's hands all over it.  If I hadn't developed eczema or gone back to the YMCA, I wouldn't have been able to minister to many Active Older Adults daily as I read devotionals at the end of class or offer prayers at our luncheons, meetings, and the close of my Christian Yoga class.  Not to mention the daily opportunities to share my love and belief in my God through numerous conversations.

I truly believe this was God's plan for me before I was knit together in my mother's womb.  Did I have this faith while all this was unfolding in my life?  No way.  It wasn't until I looked back that I could see it.  And now that I have this faith, I can look forward to letting God continue to direct my steps.

So, which came first, faith or opportunity?  I don't think it matters as long as we trust that our God wants the best for us.  If you're not sure, take a quick glance back and see where He has led you through the hard times and has sent blessings just when you need them.  Don't doubt, have faith!

Keep your friends close and your family closer

Keep Your Friends Close and Your Family Closer

Hi friends, it’s Joyce from the YMCA!

That’s right, I consider you all my friends.  If you take the time to read what I write, we must be friends.  I have friends from many places as I’m sure you do as well.  I have my friends at the YMCA.  I see them most days.  I know about their families, and they know about mine.  There are also my friends at church, school, or in my neighborhood.  We exchange greetings, information, and prayers.  Of course, there are my Facebook and Instagram friends.  Sometimes I know too much about them.  But it is nice to see their pictures and posts.  I have friends from childhood, High School, former jobs, also friends through my husband. Friends come and go but they each leave behind a memory, some good and some bad.

The definition of friend is: a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection.

Here are some ways to tell your friends that they matter:

Great friends are few and far between. thanks for being there for me!

Through thick and thin, we've always been friends.

Here's to many more years of being best buddies!

So blessed to have you in my life!

When I count my blessings, you're always at the top of the list. So glad we're friends.

Notice anything missing from those statements.  That’s right, where is the LOVE!

I realize that not everyone was raised in a family filled with love.  But I was and I’m thankful for the bond I have with my parents, sisters, and brother.  We have a group text where we send our joys and concerns to each other almost daily.  In Ephesians 2:10 Paul tells us that, “Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it."  Yes, He put you in your family at this time in history and has plans for you.

The definition of family is: a term that describes the members of a household who are linked by marriage or bloodline.

Now I’m not here to preach to you, but I do know a thing or two about family.  My sisters and I have the same eyes and laugh but that’s about all.  We do things differently and have different likes and dislikes.  Linda likes mushrooms!  If you know me, you know I don’t eat fungus.  I have raised three daughters and they are all different in looks and personalities.  But they are family. We accept each other in spite of our differences.  Why?  Because we love each other.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all people, in all cities and schools, in every state and country, and throughout the whole world, would treat each other like family.  Look past the differences, to what we have in common, and work together to bring peace to our world.

What do you think about Joyce Ann Cavanaugh Prutz?

Joyce, the name means joyful, and yes that is what she is.  Sometimes to the point of annoyance.  How can a person be smiling all the time?  What is her secret?  She looks at life through rose-colored glasses.  The bottle is always half full.  She is very naive about how people really are.  She is too trusting.  Someday, she will be sorry that she helped that person or volunteered to do that service.

But I'm glad she is my friend.  I can count on her to be there for me, with me, and beside me through thick and thin.  She will grab hold of my hands and offer a heart-felt prayer anywhere, anytime.  And her back massages melt the tension away and give me renewed hope and strength.

Yep, that Joyce Prutz is well named and a person you will want to get to know.

She makes awesome Broccoli Cheese Soup too!

Juliette the Groovy Hedgehog

Juliette the Groovy Hedgehog

Story 1
I know a character that is by far the most adventurous creature in the northern hemisphere.  Her name is Juliette Rose Marie.  She is a courageous hedgehog.  You ask, what makes her so brave?  Well for one thing, she lives in the city of Chatanooga TN.  That's right, a hedgehog living in a big city!   Juliette has made her home in a well-established neighborhood in one of the most up and coming cities in the state of Tennessee.
In the morning she sits on the ledge of her window overlooking the longest pedestrian bridge in the United States and watches the men and women walking across the Walnut Street Bridge.  They are usually unaware of her observations.  She notices that most are in a world of their own, not paying any attention to the world around them.  They don't notice the water of the Tennessee River flowing underneath their feet.  They miss the sweet songs of the birds in Riverfront Park.
One particular sunny morning, a very observant Juliette noticed a young girl slowly and clumsily making her way through the crowd.  She seemed upset maybe even confused as she bumped into the lady with the yellow suitcase and the man in the Tennessee Titan's sweatshirt.  Juliette decided to jump down and get a closer look.  Now a hedgehog scurrying down a fire escape is unusual for the busy folks of Chattanooga, so Juliette received a bit of attention as she made her way to the bench in front of Clumpies Ice Cream where the girl was now sitting and crying.
The compassionate hedgehog is gifted with the ability to communicate with whomever she chooses.  Today she sits down close to the girl, but not too close, a hedgehog's spines are sharp and can hurt if they are touched.  Juliette is intuitive to the girl's pain and confusion.  Is the girl lost, or hurt, or even in danger?  How can Juliette find out?  Now I told you that Juliete is adventurous, so she decided to try to make the girl laugh by doing her favorite trick.  She looked into the girl's sad face and puckered up her little pink lips and blew her a kiss.  It worked.  The girl stopped crying and started laughing.  People stopped what they were doing and watched the witty little hedgehog blow kisses to them.
Suddenly from across the bridge came a shout, "Caroline, where are you?"  The little girl jumped up and started running toward the voice.  Juliette turned and watched the little girl being picked up and hugged by a man in a gray suit.  Together they walked back across the blue bridge and out of her sight.  If Juliette had not be quick to respond to the turmoil she felt in the girl, this story might not have a happy ending, but because she is not only resourceful but practical as well the girl was returned to her family.
Juliette looked around and noticed that the people were once again walking across the bridge with their own concerns weighing heavy on their minds. It's nearly lunch time she thought, I wonder if the Purple Daisy Picnic Cafe is open yet.  They serve a delicious bar b que sandwich.

Story 2
The Read House Hotel is a 17-minute walk from the Market Street Bridge, for human, but for a tiny hedgehog is takes all morning.  It was a gloomy day, so Juliette decided it was time to explore the 3rd floor.  Rumor has it that Room 311 is haunted.  The story says that in 1927 poor Annalisa Netherly was beheaded in the bathtub by her jealous lover.
Juliette scampered up the service stairway to check things out.  Staying close to the wall she quickly made her way down the hall to the door at Room 311.  But how to get in?  Suddenly the door open and an elderly cleaning service employee came out.  She was carrying a tray and large paper bag.  Juliette slipped in unnoticed.  The first thing she saw was the beautiful decor.  The sitting room had a blue Victorian couch and chaise.  It looked fit for a queen.  But Juliete was not here to look at furniture, she was sniffing for the scent of danger and intrigue.
She entered the bedroom which had more delicate pieces from the 1920's.  Her goal was the bathroom, of course.  That is where the murder happened after all.
There was the bathtub!  She wondered if it was the same one where Annalisa blood was poured into.  Probably not.  Looking around she noticed that the floor was wet.  Why would the newly cleaned room have a wet floor?  Eyewitness accounts suggest that the lights flicker and the sound of running water can be heard.
Suddenly she hears a voice from the bedroom.  She peeps out and sees the same employee leading a young man into the room.  Juliette listens as the woman tells the man to stay as quiet as possible if he wants to get off the streets for the night.  She hands him a big paper bag that has a clean change of clothes in it and sets down a tray with food on the nearby table.  After a quick hug she disappears out the door.
Mystery solved.  The kind-hearted cleaning lady had been allowing homeless men and women to stay the night in Room 311 for years.  As Juliette tried to quietly leave the room the young man noticed her.  He kneeled down and offered her a bit of the sandwich from the tray.  Maybe she should stay for a while and keep him company.  He might get lonely in this big suite.  Maybe the generous lady would come back with more food.

Story 3

It was a sweltering hot day in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Juliette felt the need to get out of town for a breath of fresh air.  She started heading south and ended up at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.  It was a beautiful area overlooking the mountains and the city.
Juliette found a comfy spot under a bush next to the Andrew's Raiders Monument.  She was reading the inscription when she was interrupted by a gray squirrel.  The irate squirrel said, "That's a lie!''  "What is a lie," asked Juliette?  "The sign doesn't say that James Andrew received the Medal of Honor but I'm sure he did.  He was in charge of the raid that tore down the telegraph lines and wrecked the railroad tracks in the Civil War.  On April 12, 1862, he and his men boarded “The General,” a wood-burning locomotive, at Marietta, Georgia, while the passengers and conductor enjoyed breakfast.  The raiders took off in the engine, heading north, cutting telegraph lines and tearing up the rail tracks along their way.  The train’s conductor and others gave chase, commandeering two other trains as they encountered broken tracks.  When the raiders reached Ringgold, Georgia, 80 miles northwest of Marietta, they jumped from the train, scattering in the forest."
"Wow, you sure know alot about history," said Juliette.  "But I heard that James Andrew was a spy and that made him ineligible for a Medal of Honor.  He was captured and hanged in Atlanta.  I hear he was buried over in Section H."
The little gray squirrel looked at Juliete like she had 2 heads.  It began chattering, turning in circles, and swishing it's tail.  Juliette began to be concerned that the poor little thing was going to have a heart attack.  Then all of the sudden the squirrel stopped, took a deep breath, looked at Juliette, and said, "Ok then, what do you know about the German POWs over in Section R?"
For the rest of the day, the little gray squirrel and Juliette explored the cemetery, learning, listening and enjoying their time together.
It was starting to get dark, so Juliette said goodbye to her new friend, Sydney.  She hopped aboard a sightseeing bus and was dropped off right in front of her home on Market Street.  It's nice to have a dependable bus system to count on in Chattanooga.

A Lesson I Learned the Hard Way

I took a bad fall 2 months ago.  I could blame it on the Long Island Iced Tea, or the uneven floors in the restaurant, or even my bad knees.  But the true culprit is being 63 years old and wearing stiletto shoes.  Oh my, they are beautiful shoes!  Black suede, 4-inch stiletto heels, with a small platform.

Totally embarrassed, I got to my feet, the pain in my knees was excruciating.  I hobbled out to the car, sat down, and held back my tears.  We walked gingerly into the concert.  I was relieved to sit down again.  After two hours of sitting my knees stiffened up and again the pain was beyond anything I ever felt. This time the pain radiated down to my feet and ankles.  Of course, I was still wearing the beautiful black high heels.

I have to admit whiskey did alot to numb the pain that night.

Did I get rid of those shoes?  Nope, they are still in my closet, waiting.  Did I learn a lesson?  I sure did, but I can't promise that I will never do it again.  Let me tell you about my sparkly silver shoes...

#23 Write a Letter to someone...

I'm writing this letter to whom it may concern...

I probably shouldn't be writing this now because I am in a bad mood.  More like a state of displeasure.  Maybe the doldrums or a fit of pique.  It is cold and snowing outside and I am feeling irritable.

Will I have to cancel my classes again tomorrow?  If I do, I won't be the only one suffering a depression.  My class won't be able to exercise which will release the endorphins that create a good mood and feelings of well-being.  We won't be able to meet with our friends and socialize which produces happiness, bliss, and exhilaration!

My mood is also glum because I haven't seen my daughter Jessica since October when she moved out of state.  It might be petty, but I need to be with my girls or I become vexed with my circumstances.  I begin to pout, nag, and generally become a *itch.  You just ask my husband...he'll tell you!

So what can I do to get out of this ill temper?  I'm doing it right now.  Yes, writing is helping to blow away this blue mood.  I'm feeling relief and a sense of lightness as I confess my annoyances.  I'm reaching a state of contentment and dare I say, euphoria.  If you could see my face, you would see a slight smile, a little upward curve at the corners of my mouth.

I hope you can find something that lightens your mood and brings you joy on a gloomy day too.

Three Lessons I want my Girls to Learn:

The first lesson my girls need to learn is that family is the most important.

The second lesson is that God is with them through the mountains and the valleys. (this probably should be the first lesson.)

And the third lesson is that marriage is hard sometimes.  You need to learn to give and give and give.  Your time, your attention, your love until it's all used up and then give some more!
